Mr White's Announcements
Hi Everyone,
Here are some more specific details about the upcoming events that I hope you find useful:
The Student Leadership selection process for 2025-26 has begun: Help us make our band program the best that it can be!! This is an optional process. Leadership is a time commitment that has many rewards, including rounding out your college and job applications, growing as a person, improving teamwork, learning new skills, and having fun. Students interested in a leadership position for 2025-26 should read the Leadership Tryout Information and Job Descriptions in Google classroom and sign up on or before Wednesday, April 9th.
Our Spring/End of Year Concert will be on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at 6:30 pm: A link to purchase tickets will be available soon. We hope you’ll join us!
Auditions for the 2025-26 Wind Ensemble (advanced band) and Jazz Band will be through video audition: Students auditioning for these groups will submit a video of themselves performing the required audition materials on or before Friday, May 2, 2025 for Wind Ensemble and Friday, May 9, 2025 for Jazz Band. Materials can be found at Audition Information.
Seniors Last Day, Thursday, May 8, 2025: Congratulations Seniors! Please make sure to return all school-owned items (instrument, music books, etc.) on or before this date and make sure your band account is paid in full.
Important Parent/Student Meeting and Annual Band Lock-In/Invitational on Friday, May 9, 2025: This is for everyone planning to be in the SRHS Band/Guard next year. We will have a very important meeting for parents and students from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm in the SRHS band room, followed by a social event for all Band/Guard students from 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm. If you know band students planning to attend Spanish River next year please tell them about this very important event!
Percussion Placement Night will be the evening of Thursday, May 15. Everyone planning to play percussion at SRHS next year must attend this important event. This event will help determine which band class the student will be enrolled in for next year as well as their placement for the marching band season. Materials and more information will be available soon.
Required After-School Rehearsals: Rehearsals for all students in the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble Tuesday, May 13, 2025 and Tuesday, May 20, 2025 from 3:15 pm - 5:00 pm. The two bands will combine to form one group which will be performing at graduation on Wednesday. May 21, 2025. In order to prepare we must have some group rehearsal time.
Graduation, Wednesday, May 21, 2025: Performing at the graduation ceremony is required for all students in Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble. This performance, and the two after-school rehearsals (5/13 and 5/20), will be considered the final exam for the band classes. Students are still required to attend class the day of the final exam. We will be meeting at SRHS at 10:00 am the morning of 5/21, taking busses to and from the graduation ceremony in West Palm Beach, and returning to SRHS for dismissal at 4:30 pm. More details and permission forms will be out soon.
2025-26 Marching Band Season: In an effort to encourage students and parents to participate in the fall marching band season, we are making some significant changes in our after-school band program. We realize students at SRHS are very academically focused and spend many hours every night on schoolwork and other activities. Therefore, we are planning to have only one after-school rehearsal per week (Thursdays 3:30-6:30) once school begins until the end of October (the exact schedule will depend on the football schedule which is not yet available). We will perform at all of our home football games and the Boca Holiday Parade. We will have a half day of student leadership training on Monday, July 28 from 9:00 am -12:00 pm and a band camp (required) from July 29-31 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. More information will be discussed at the parent meeting on Friday, May 9. Students in marching band earn an honors credit for their Band class, a PE waiver of the Team Sports graduation requirement, community service hours, get great exercise, and have a lot of FUN!
I look forward to sharing these fun events and making Music together! If you have any questions please contact me at craig.white@palmbeachschools.org
Congratulations Marching Band and Color Guard
Congratulations Marching Band and Color Guard on earning an Overall Superior Rating at our District 14 Marching Band Assessment on Saturday, October 19th! The Music Performance Assessment is our most important performance of the marching season and the students performed really well. There were six judges (2 Music, 1 Visual, 1 General Effect, 1 Percussion, 1 Auxiliary (Color Guard)) in the stadium at Palm Beach Central H.S. We have all been working toward this event all season and I want to thank everyone for all of your hard work and dedication in getting our group to a level of such high quality. I am very proud of you! Thank you to our parent volunteers (we couldn't do it without you!) and to everyone who showed up for our performances. Go Silver Sound Band!!!
Congratulations All County Honor Band!
Congratulations to Band members Chase Ewell, Luke Jaffee, and Nicholas Liebig who have been selected to the Palm Beach all County Honor Band!
